Full and Partial Dentures
Dentures are custom replacements for missing teeth. By replacing the lost teeth in the mouth, dentures prevent sagging of the facial muscles and also help you speak and eat easily. At Cornerstone Dental Associates in Crossroads, TX, we provide highly comfortable removable dentures as well as sturdy and stable implant-supported dentures. A regular denture rests on the gums, and is removable while an implant-supported denture is a fixed overdenture, which is attached to and supported by dental implants.
One needs to have enough bone structures to support implants in order to be able to get implant-supported dentures. If enough bone is not present, bone grafts may be needed prior to implant placement.
Implant-supported dentures are of two types:
- Ball-retained dentures (stud-attachment): In this type of implant-supported dentures, each implant holds a metal attachment, which is fitted into with attachment on the denture. Mostly, the attachments on the implants are ball-shaped ("male"), and they fit into sockets ("female") on the denture. It may be the reverse in some cases.
- Bar-retained dentures: these are comprised of a thin bar of a metal bar that has been attached to two to five implants placed in the jawbone and follows the curve of your jaw and. Clips or other attachments are fitted to the denture, the bar or both. The denture fits over the bar and is clipped in place by the attachments.
